Founded in Chicago, IL in 1969, Galco holsters was originally called "The Original Jackass Leather Company." The owner, Richard Gallagher, specialized in gun holsters made from horsehide.

In 1980, the company name was changed to Galco International, the they started focusing on both horsehide and cowhide leather holsters. In 1983, the entire operation was moved from Chicago to Phoenix, AZ, and expanded to include a larger manufacturing facility.

While rapidly gaining in popularity amongst shooters and law enforcement, Galco's popularity was even further enhanced when TV series Miami Vice star Don Johnson carried a Galco shoulder holster in every episode.

Over the years, Galco has continued to expand their line of holster products, but are probably best know for their concealed carry holsters. A great deal of their models are available in horsehide and cowhide. Galco offers a number of different types of holsters, but they are especially strong in IWB holsters.

Galco has become a dominant force in the US holster industry by building brand and name recognition coupled with a good selection. Galco holsters aren't the least expensive holsters on the market, but they do perform well.
