Introduced in 2001, the H&K P2000 was designed as a smaller version of the popular H&K USP (Universal Self Loading Pistol) handgun series. The P2000 frame is similar in size to the H&K USP Compact weapon and will generally fit holsters that are made the USP Compact as well.

Like the USP, the P2000 is a polymer based weapon that has models chambered to fit a 9mm, .40 cal. S&W, and .357 Sig. The P2000 also features an interchangeable backstrap that is not currently found on the USP series. Another notable difference that separates the P2000 from the USP is the lack of an external safety. The USP series feature an external safety, while the P2000 does not.

The P2000 also features a universal accessory rail, while the USP models have a special proprietary H&K mounting system that will only work with H&K accessories. The universal rail on the P2000 will fit most any attachment built for a standard rail.
