Sidearm opinion for concealed carry?

shoulder holster
nikolai asked:

Before i begin, I have a concealed carry license, so this IS legal......ish.
4 months ago, I got robbed at gunpoint, and had over $1000 in belongings stolen from me. This was gang related, I'm not in one but the guy was, and he's still "out to get me". I'm an excellent marksman, but need advice on concealed carry, for my personal protection. I already carry a Mossberg 500A with pump pistol grip and top-folding stock in my car, but I need something to keep on me at all times.

I want to know whats the best sidearm for me to carry. I will most likely have it in a shoulder holster, or on my waist (inside of jeans).
I need it to be small, preferably a compact or sub-compact pistol so that it's not obvious I have a weapon, I need it to be well-made, and also I need it to either have the option of a compensator or fire low-recoil rounds. I also would like it to have a good psychology factor, ea. not be a wimpy-looking gun. Money is also a factor, I'm cheap.
ABSOLUTELY NO .22 CAL

Yeah no .22. Um, I do know that a lot of gun shops would probably be better for recommending something. I’ve recently taken a lot of interest in high velocity pistols. If you’re trying to go in a different direction you could go with XD series from Springfield Armory, or maybe the M&P series from Smith & Wesson, lemme see there was one other one I saw that looked cool. Oh Witness series, not sure who makes those. Also Ruger just came out with a revolver called the Redhawk Alaska very nice.

Forget the shoulder holster, they are nice on TV and easy to draw from when seated but they are also an easy way to lose the gun. (been there, done that).

A polymer sub compact like Springfield XD in .40 s&w caliber would be my choice. Lots of companies make these and the cost runs from $300 to $400. The Springfield comes with great holster and it is easy to modify the grip to your hands. TV and movies have made the black polymers like glocks etc. the weapon of choice for gangstas so they know it is a gun.
If you don’t feel the need for an semi auto full of rounds the S&W lightweight J frames are and easy carry but only five shot of .38 or 9mm and they are expensive. Being a revolver they need almost no maintenance. All the bad guys recognize them as real weapons.

Don’t go lower than .38 special (380′s are as useless for self defense as .22′s). 9mm is popular and you can find a lot used but the jacketed rounds that feed the best do not have much stopping power.

Practice with that Mossberg. Your pistol grip makes it hard to handle. I always suggest to people who wnat a self defense shotgun to go with and 18.5 inch barrel and a 410 or 16 guage, Easy to handle, gets the job done and scares the cr** out of the bad guys.
