Would this be an appropriate style for a police officer in the plainclothes unit?
You know how many officers in the plainclothes unit in cities everywhere are dressed differently than uniformed ones - jeans, T-shirts, slacks, runners, turtlenecks, clothes like that.
I think that these kinds of cops should perhaps dress in a style that revealed more of themselves in terms of skin, flesh and muscle. Especially if you work out a lot to stay in shpe, you shouln't be afraid to show off what you got.
Male officers would look better (and cooler) if they wore oversized muscle tops that show off their muscular arms and shoulders, and perhaps a little bit of chest and chest hair (and keep weapons and gear on their holster belts concealed), and wear their badges on a neckchain. Then they can "flex" their muscles to the bad guys, just to show them who's in charge, and who can take out whom.
This would be an appropriate fashion especially if they live in a city with a year-round warm climate, like Miami, complete with a leather jacket to wear when it gets cooler.
Female plainclothes cops can wear arm-and-shoulder revealing tops too, (either with armholes or straps, halter wouldn't be a very good idea) as long as they don't show too much cleavage. They shouldn't try and look like some Pam Anderson wannabe hookers here. Like the men, a holster belt to hold their gear would also look good on them. And again, badges on a neckchain, and a light jacket for when it's not so hot outside.
Do you think any of this is appropriate and a good idea? Would it be wise for plainclothes cops to show off their arms and shoulders? Or would it look unprofessional? Do you think it'd somehow make them look like sex objects and playthings?

What your describing may be appropriate for officers who are working undercover, who don’t want to be identified as police officers, but it sounds generally unprofessional.
On call outs in the middle of the night for crime scenes or major accidents, we’ll sometimes just show up in jeans and a t-shirt with our badge on a chain, but we’re not doing patrol functions, we’re investigating.
A more popular variation now is casual attire (blue jeans, t-shirt) with a tactical vest which identifies you (police, sheriff, etc.) and your duty gear. This is becoming more popular with specialized units, like street crime units or directed enforcement units.
Many states also have laws as to how the officer needs to idenify him/herself. You can watch episodes of COPS from back east and some of the officers look like they came out of The Sopranos with some of the stuff they are wearing.

law enforcement is a paramilitary profession and just like the military they have dress standards they represent the agancy they work for and should not take away from that professional appearance. in some cities even in plain clothes it is unappropraite to wear anything other than business attire.
