Belt holsters is a somewhat broad term used to describe holsters that are worn on the belt or via belt loops on the holster. Most belt holsters are worn on the strongside, while some may be worn in other locations.

Belt holsters can be called a number of different names including pancake holsters, OWB (outside the waistband) holsters, and OTB (On The Belt) holsters.

Belt holster usually attach to the belt using one, two, or, in some cases, three belt loops or slots. In many cases, the belt slots may require a gun belt that is a specific width, such as 1 1/4", 1 1/2", or 1 3/4". The position of the belt slots will usually determine the holster cant as well.

Cant refers to the angle that the holster rides on the belt. A holster that rides straight up and down is called a straight cant, zero cant, or no cant holster. Most holsters that ride as a forward cant are usually designed to ride at 15 degrees as this cant was made popular by the FBI. Aside from 15 degree cants, some holsters are also built to ride at cant angles that are lower or higher.
