150 years ago, leather was the only material available for gun holsters. Quite a bit has changed since then. Although leather is still a mainstay material for holsters, a number of other materials are now being used. While leather has a number of excellent properties that make it a good choice, it’s not without it’s flaws.
In the last 20 years, technology has played an important role in gun holsters and new materials have been introduced into the market, with still newer ones coming along now.
Now gun holsters are made from materials like:
- thermoplastic materials
- kydex
- ballistic nylon
- exotic skins and hides (alligator, shark, etc.)
