Based on the P85 series, the Ruger P89 was introduced in 1989. It featured a number of operating variants including three different firing/safety configurations:
(1) A decocking manual safety version
(2) The “D” version which featured a decocker with no safety
(3) The “DAO” or Double Action Only version which had no decocker or safety and would only fire double action only
Like the P85, the P89 was chambered for the 9mm and would carry 15+1. While the P89 was an extremely popular model with millions sold, it was discontinued in 2008.
